NHS Improvement , Chief Executive
A qualified accountant who joined the NHS in 1990 becoming Director of Finance at North Tyneside Healthcare NHS Trust and then Deputy Chief Executive for the new Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust in 1998. Spent 18 months on secondment as Regional Director of Finance before returning to Northumbria as Chief Operating Officer in the summer of 2002. Appointed Joint Chief Executive in November 2003 and sole Chief Executive April 2005. Jim is 49 and married with two daughters.
Jim spent 18 months as Interim Chief Executive of Northumberland Care Trust in 2004/5. Jim has a keen interest in quality of care, especially patient and family experience and has participated in a number of reviews and national projects, such as the Dalton Review in 2014.
Jim takes up post as Chief Executive at NHS Improvement on 1 November 2015 to lead the body that brings together Monitor and TDA.
