Evidence consistently points to the effect of good leadership in making patient safety a properly embedded philosophy in clinical practice. Yet there can be a tension between centrally imposed performance and financial targets which prioritise speed of access and productivity, potentially at the expense of patient safety.

New director of nursing and patient safety appointed at London trust

St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, London, has appointed Alison Robertson as its new Director of Nursing and Patient Safety.

Ms Robertson, who is currently chief nurse at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, will join St George’s in the New Year.
